ISLAMABAD, August 31 2018 – Akbar Khan, Secretary Food, highlighted the need of support from wheat flour and edible oil and ghee millers for the mandatory fortification of wheat flour and edible oil and ghee in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Secretary Food encouraged the extensive liaison between DFID funded Food Fortification Programme (FFP) and Food Department for the successful implementation of the programme. He recognized the importance of vitamin and mineral rich food for human development and particularly cognitive development of children.

FFP Team Leader, Mr. Stuart King, FFP Technical Director, Dr. Tausif Akhtar Janjua and National Advocacy and Communications Manager, Laila Rubab Jaskani met with the Secretary Food, Akbar Khan in his office on Thursday, 30 August, 2018 to discuss programme priorities.

Akbar Khan, Thursday, said that improvement of nutrition for the people is among priority areas for the government. Speaking in a meeting with the FFP team, Secretary Food highly appreciated the initiative and expressed support for the programme.

“Impaired growth and development of a child is the result of poor infant and maternal nutrition, its implications are in shape of poorer cognitive and educational achievements in the later life of a child”, said Technical Director, Dr. Tausif Akhtar Janjua.
